The team of High Plains School eighth graders Ragen Miller and Shea Batres won the Battery Car Competition of the NoCo Middle School Car Competition sponsored by Platte River Power Authority. Ten schools from Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland participated in the 2021 virtual competition. High Plains entered 10 teams of 6th and 8th grade students—five battery lithium-polymer battery powered car teams and five solar powered car teams. The students soldered, cut balsa wood with Dremel tools and built electrical circuits with switches using thumbtacks and safety pins to create their cars. High Plains held it’s Time Trial Competition—each team had three runs on a 20-meter track—and the best time for each team was entered into the NoCo Time Trials Event. Miller and Batres won the Battery Car Competition with a time of 6:34 seconds.
