Dr. Maria Gabriel Awarded the "G. Pritchy Smith Multicultural Educator Award"

- The National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) has awarded Thompson School District's Dr. Maria Gabriel with the G. Pritchy Smith Multicultural Educator Award.  Dr. Gabriel serves the district as TSD's Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, a position she has held since 2019.

The NAME Awards provide national and international recognition of individuals, groups, and institutions that make outstanding contributions toward multicultural education, educational equity and social justice. An educator may be nominated for this particular NAME Award if he or she meets the following eligibility criteria:

-There is evidence of long term, scholarly commitment to teaching from a multicultural perspective.
-There are multiple facets of diversity addressed in the recipient's work.
-The recipient is an example of multicultural ideals and practices
-The recipient is able to blend theory and practice in a manner that develops awareness, acceptance and affirmation of diversity.

The National Association for Multicultural Education is a non-profit organization that advances and advocates for equity and social justice through multicultural education. Today, the organization is an active, growing organization with over 1,500 members from throughout the United States and several other countries.
