Dr Melissa Schneider

March 3, 2022 - Thompson School District announced today that it has named Dr. Melissa Schneider as Chief Academic Officer, effective July 1. Dr. Schneider will fill the position that is being vacated by Dawne Huckaby, who is retiring from the district in June. As Chief Academic Officer, she will lead all aspects of the district that are directly related to its core instructional mission.

Since 2019, Dr. Schneider has served as the district’s Director of Professional Development, leading a team dedicated to providing staff with quality learning opportunities that assist their work and the instruction and support of each student throughout TSD.  Before joining Thompson School District, she served as the Coordinator of Excellence and Equity for Littleton Public Schools in Littleton, Colo.  Through that position, she provided leadership and vision toward the district’s strategic plan and worked to eliminate barriers to student performance due to societal inequities or unique learning needs.  Dr. Schneider also has vast experience analyzing district growth and achievement data and she has conducted program evaluations to assess needs and outcomes.  Her twenty-four year career in education includes experience as a classroom teacher, mathematics instructional coach, gifted and talented facilitator, literacy coach, principal of the Village for Early Childhood Education in Littleton Public Schools and as an adjunct faculty member at the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver.

“I am thrilled to serve Thompson School District by leading the work of an incredibly talented team,” said Dr. Schneider. “I look forward to continuing to build relationships across the district and community that will have a positive impact on each of our students.”

Dr. Schneider earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. as well as a master’s in Education Administration from the University of Phoenix.  She completed her Ph.D. in Research Methods and Statistics with a focus on Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver.
