COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities for Students Ages 5 and Up

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.  This action was followed by a formal authorization by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, which allows for vaccinations to proceed throughout the state.  The emergency use authorization for children ages 5-11 only applies to the Pfizer vaccine at this time.

Similar to the process that was followed when vaccine authorization was given for children ages 12 and up, Thompson School District is partnering with local and state officials to help connect families with opportunities if they choose to vaccinate their child.  Please note that COVID-19 vaccinations are completely optional and are not required for staff or students.

How May a COVID-19 Vaccine Benefit My Child’s Access to In-Person Learning?

A student’s vaccination status frequently determines whether they are required to quarantine following a high-risk exposure to COVID-19.  Due to the effectiveness of the immunizations, students who are vaccinated are often able to remain in school following an exposure. In other words, vaccinating your child against the disease is one of the most effective ways to help ensure that they are able to maintain in-person instruction and minimize disruptions to their learning.

COVID-19 Vaccination Opportunities

Below is a link to COVID-19 vaccination clinics that are available for students (5 years old and up), families and community members throughout the district.  Additional opportunities can also be viewed by visiting this website managed by the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment.

The clinics will be hosted by the State of Colorado’s mobile vaccination bus, which is partnering with TSD to be on-site twice a week from November 9 through the end of the calendar year. Flu shots will also be available at all locations. Please note that initial supplies of COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 may be limited. A child's parent or guardian must be present at the time that the student is immunized.
