2020-2021 School Start Dates Moved to August 31 and September 1
The Thompson School District Board of Education has formally adopted adjustments to the beginning dates and first-week class schedules for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
Two-Week Start Date Delay
The start date for the upcoming school year has been officially shifted to Monday, August 31 (Transition Day for kindergarten as well as grades 6 and 9) and Tuesday, September 1 (first day for all other grades). All students who were previously scheduled to start school on August 17 will now begin on August 31. Students who were slated to begin on August 18 will now begin classes on September 1. District staff are developing plans to provide food service during this delay, consistent with the existing structure of the summer food program. More details will be released on the district’s website as plans are finalized.
Implementation of this delay, which is similar to action taken by many other districts in the metro area, will allow more time for teaching and support staff to effectively plan for the in-person and virtual education options that will be available to our families. The extra time will also help create a smoother transition and experience for all students.
One-Week Shortened Schedule (August 31 - September 4)
In addition, the Board of Education has approved a one-week shortened schedulefor the first week of the upcoming school year. District staff members recognize that there will need to be a period of adjustment for our students as they return to in-person instruction after many months away. To assist with that transition, the following schedule will now take place during the first week of school (August 31 - September 4). (REMINDER: Monday, August 31, is designated as “Transition Day” and only kindergarten, grade 6 and grade 9 will need to attend on that day.)
TSD Preschool: Scheduling information will be announced soon.
