CPR/First Aid/AED Trained Staff:
- School health office staff are CPR/First Aid/AED certified along with at least two other staff members in each school.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required for teachers who take students on field trips or sponsor school activities or clubs during or after school hours.
- Thompson School District provides CPR/First Aid/AED certification classes at no or low cost for all employees.
- School nurses are CPR/AED certified and School Emergency Triage Trained (SETT).
Stop the Bleeding Campaign 2018:
In collaboration with Thompson Valley EMS, school health office staff are trained in the use of tourniquets to stop severe bleeding. Thompson Valley EMS has donated tourniquets to each school to include in emergency medical kits for this purpose.
School Emergency Triage Trained Staff:
School nurses are encouraged to complete SETT (School Emergency Triage Training). SETT training provides school nurses with the knowledge, skills, and training resources to lead school-based disaster response teams and perform triage in response to mass causality incident (MCI) events.
Medication Administration Certified Staff:
Colorado Medication Administration Training is provided by school nurses to all unlicensed health office staff to ensure the safe administration of medications in school health offices. Additionally, school nurses train any other staff who will be administering routine or emergency medications in classrooms during school hours or at all school sponsored activities, at or away from schools, during non-school hours.
