Lucile Erwin Middle School (LEMS) is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program school. Following the IB mission “...to create a better world through education,” LEMS strives to develop the whole- child focus on global mindedness through teaching of interdisciplinary units of study, social-emotional learning, and the opportunity for engagement in programming outside of the traditional school day.

LEMS is an internationally minded community striving to develop compassionate lifelong learners through the lens of the IB learner profile. The IB global context foci are taught daily through core content areas. In addition, students fulfill at least 50 hours in visual and performing arts as well as the learning of a second language, French or Spanish.

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, LEMS will also host the Dual Language Immersion program in Spanish. Students who participate in this program will receive Spanish instruction in social studies and in their Dual Language Immersion elective course.

LEMS is proud to offer students a wide variety of programming before and after school to address the whole child and engage students in interests outside of the typical school day. Such offerings include athletics, No Place for Hate, National Junior Honor Society, The League of United Latin American Citizens and numerous clubs such as debate, crocheting, and gaming.

At Lucile Erwin Middle School, we challenge, empower and inspire one another to achieve our highest potential as lifelong learners interacting in a global community. We care, question, learn, reflect, and act!
