    Creating a new post

    • When you open the blog there will be 2 apps. The one titled PK-8 Blog is where you add additional posts. The PK-8 Blog Stylesheet is an app I created to style the blog page.
    • Click on the circle with the + to create a new blog entry, or click on the circle with the pencil to edit an old entry or create a new one.
    • Items that must be filled in have a red asterisk: Blog Title, Post Date, Email.
    • You can click the purple left pointing arrow to expand the editing area.
    • To reveal the complete list of editing icons, click on the 3 dots.
    • If you want to start on an entry and complete it later, uncheck the blue “Activate on my page” button at the bottom of the page.

    Adding images:

    Click on the "Inset Image" icon (next to the chain link). Choose "No Resizing" then browse for the image you want to use. When you get to the window asking for "Alternative Text" it should be filled in. Alternative text is for ADA compliance (it will describe the image for a person who is blind).

    If you chose "No Resizing", the "Height" and "Width" will automatically adjust when you change one or the other.

    For reference the image of you in the original blog post is 234 high and 175 wide.

    "Alignment" will allow you to choose if the image should be left or right of the text.

    The "Vertical" and "Horizontal" Padding adjusts the space around the image, keeping text away from the image. A good number to use is 10 for each.

    Adding Links:

    1. To create a link to a document, or to enter an email address, type any text you want to use for the link first. 
    2. Highlight the text to be used for the hyperlink, then choose the "Chain Link" icon from the editing ribbon.
    3. Choose "Email Address" or "Web Address". If you choose web address, be sure to select "Open in New Window" for "Target".
    4. If you want to link to a document, highlight the text to be used for the hyperlink, then choose the "Inset File" icon from the ribbon bar. Browse for the document to use (a .PDF file is suggested). The text to be used for the link should already be filled in, be sure to choose "Open in New Window" for "Target".

  • Hello NEW PK-8 Community!

    Welcome to our first NEW PK-8 Update!

    Val Lara-BlackMy name is Val Lara-Black, and I have the privilege of being the Principal of our NEW PK-8 School, which will open in the fall of 2023!

    I am currently the Principal at Mary Blair Elementary School where I have served the TSD community since 2012. I've been an administrator for a total of 16 years and I taught middle school Spanish, and Linguistically Diverse learners prior to that.

    My greatest hope for this new school is that we provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for all of our students, staff, and families!

    This process is going to be an exciting opportunity to join three learning communities: Monroe Elementary, Mary Blair Elementary, and Conrad Ball Middle School. Each community brings unique perspective, experiences, and strengths. It will be exciting, and even challenging at times, to work to draw from the best of all three to create our new, unified community of learning. I look forward to going on this journey with each of you!

    Throughout the next several months I will be sharing updates, information, and focus group participation opportunities through this blog  - stay tuned!

    While this communication is intended to keep everyone informed, it's also meant to provide an opportunity for two-way communication and answers to common questions asked throughout the process of opening our new school.
