Ms. April Velez

April Velez is so excited to join the High Plains family. She is from Austin, Texas. April has two adult children who are finishing up college back in Texas and three fur babies at home. She graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Child Development. April went back to school in 2019 and completed a Masters in Reading with an emphasis in elementary education. She was a preschool teacher for 15 years then she taught first grade for three years in Texas before relocating to Colorado. April was a second and fifth grade teacher in Greeley. She is super excited to start her new adventure as our Reading Interventionist.

In her spare time April loves spending time outdoors. She paddle boards and hikes in the mountains as much as possible. April is looking forward to meeting all of our High Plains families and watching our students make great growth in Literacy.
