Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Rhonda Vahlenkamp
Rhonda is thrilled to begin her second year in Thompson School District at High Plains School! A Colorado native, born in Denver and raised in Arvada, Rhonda has taught in Texas, Oregon and Colorado. Most recently, she was teaching place based learning at a small school on the Oregon coast. She looks forward to meeting her new students and their families soon to begin a new adventure together!
Rhonda received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in English from Baylor University. She pursues her own education in school leadership, social and emotional learning and cultural diversity on a regular basis. She has taught all elementary grades and finds joy at each grade level. This past year, she completed 30 grad credits to enhance her knowledge base!
Loving learning takes Rhonda on many new adventures and travels. She has been to most of the United States, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, and Japan. Four years ago, she moved away from all of her family and friends in order to achieve a lifelong dream of living on the west coast. The experience was life changing and only fueled her passion to continue to grow and learn through new adventures, risks and yes, even failures! Her favorite memories are road trips taking the long way and avoiding all interstates. Lately, she has taken up kayaking and enjoys the quietness of the water. She has three dogs who both delight and annoy her daily. Gardening is her happy place and her most recent big project has been a pond where she enjoys the sound and peacefulness of water in her own backyard. Most weekends can find her enjoying friends at the lake or with a great meal.
