The November team meeting featured TSD safety and security manager Rick Frei. Mr. Frei guided the group through a presentation of the district's safety and security protocols. Attendees also learned more about school security from the district's School Resource Officer (SRO) team.

The December meeting was focused almost exclusively on the Common Core State Standards, including an overview of what they are and how they have been implemented within the district. The Learning Services department also provided some preliminary information regarding the district's new online registration system, which is scheduled to debut this upcoming school year.

The main topics of discussion at the January meeting centered around Standards-Based Scoring (SBS) and the district's new on-line registration system, which is slated to debut this upcoming school year. The Learning Services team presented information and answered questions about SBS practices, after which the group was presented with an opportunity to test-drive the new registration process. The input that the team received from the group was very valuable; thank you for helping to make the product the strongest it can be!

As this was the final meeting of the group before the end of the school year, the theme of the meeting focused on "review and reflection." Attendees reviewed the accomplishments of the group from the past year and began laying the groundwork for the upcoming meetings in the 2015-2016 year. In addition, the Learning Services department provided an update on the state assessment process that was administered in the district. The team also discussed the new academic scorecards that are being created for each school. Similar in structure to the Facility Performance Scorecards that were recently sent to families, these documents will provide a terrific insight into student achievement, student growth and other related items for each building.

After a terrific summer break, the Stakeholders group convened for the first time in the 2015-2016 school year. At the meeting, TSD's Learning Services department held a discussion regarding a newly proposed student and family communication plan. The group also brainstormed potential topics for upcoming Stakeholders meetings.October 12, 2015
In our October meeting, we welcomed Rick Frei, who serves TSD as Safety and Security Manager. Rick led a discussion with the group about school security and also provided a demonstration of the new single-point entry system that is being installed at many sites throughout the district.November 9, 2015
Standards Based Grading and Reporting was the focus of the November Stakeholders meeting. The TSD Learning Services department presented details and led a discussion on how the system works and how it benefits students and families. In this meeting, our Learning Services department provided an overview of Schoology, Naviance, Infinite Campus and other support programs that the district utilizes on an everyday basis. The goal of the session was to provide information on what the services are used for and how they impact the educational experience for students and parents. Following the presentation, we also had a "mid-year" discussion to touch base on what we have covered this academic year and to do some agenda setting for the first part of 2016.

For our January session, we met as a group at the construction site of the new High Plains School. We took a tour of the new school, which is slated to open in August of this year, and also held a discussion on the construction process and how the school and its programming will impact the district.February 8, 2016
The February session of the Stakeholders group featured a presentation on the district's "Thompson 2 Life" program, a district task force comprised of parents, community members, teachers and administrators that meet monthly to research, discuss and make decisions regarding ways to provide quality foundations and personalized learning. We were joined by Mountain View High School principal Kim Young and Conrad Ball Middle School principal Tiffany Miller, who spoke about all of the great work that the task force has been working on, including the variety of programs that are available to assist all students in becoming career and community-ready. The March meeting of the Stakeholders group featured a presentation by the district's Master Plan Committee regarding the proposed "Thompson Reinvented" plan. Superintendent Dr. Stan Scheer spoke to the group about how the public education system has evolved throughout the decades. Our December meeting focused on school safety and security. District safety and security director Jesse Lunsford spoke to our group about security processes that are in place in our buildings, as well as the current efforts underway to enhance those processes even further. In addition, a member of our law enforcement School Resource Officer team spoke to us about their focus on safety within the schools and the special relationships that they build with students and the school community.January 9, 2017
The topic of our session was Standards-Based Grading. In our February session, TSD's Chastity Stringer presented information to the group regarding the new student data privacy laws that have come into effect recently, including details on the steps the district has taken to ensure compliance. Following that discussion, Conrad Ball Middle School teacher Kendra Vair presented a sample lesson plan and information to the group related to Standards Based Instruction (SBI). The major topic of discussion at the meeting was the recent assessment data that was released by the State of Colorado. We discussed our district's progress as well as an update on steps that have been taken in our schools to enhance student achievement. In our meeting, a presentation and update was given regarding the district's safety and security efforts. In addition to a move to the Standard Response Protocol in safety management, the district has also made some significant changes in our buildings to help ensure safety and security for all students, staff and visitors. The focus topic for the November meeting was the district's student mental health support system and an in-depth look at the many support programs that are offered to our students, families and community members. Raquel Ramirez, TSD's AWARE Grant Coordinator, hosted the discussion. AWARE stands for "Advancing Wellness and Resilience in Education." The grant funding has been instrumental in assisting the district in this important work.
