Mrs. Valerie Powell

Valerie is a student teacher in her final semester at the University of Northern Colorado, receiving her bachelors in Elementary Education with an emphasis in mathematics and a minor in special education. Valerie has had a lot of experience working with children of all ages from the time she was 13 years old, helping her parents in their home daycare, to then babysitting for multiple families, to now having her own family. Valerie has two daughters, seven and 9 months, with her husband and together they live in Loveland alongside their dog, cats, fish, and chickens. Valerie moved to Colorado in 2011 from California and met her now husband in 2012. They had their first daughter in 2014, got married in 2019, and had their second daughter in 2021. Val and her family spend a lot of their free time camping, fishing, paddle boarding, rock hunting in the rivers, playing games, and crafting. After working with second and fifth graders in the school setting, Valerie cannot wait for this semester working with Kindergarteners alongside Mindi Mayberry, she is sure to learn a lot from them and is excited to get the opportunity at High Plains to help shape little minds.
