Thompson School District’s "Thompson Kids Can Change the World" contest recognizes students who are making a positive difference in their community. This year’s K-5th grade winner is Lauren Dietz, 5th grader at New Vision Charter School. With the guidance of community partners, she plans to create a community garden to provide food for those in need while also teaching people skills that will enable them to thrive and assist others in the future. The 6th-12th grade winner is Kelly Clingan, junior at Thompson Valley High School. She saw the success of the Thompson Valley Clothes Closet that was created for students in need, but also saw challenges to sustaining, improving and expanding it. She created a plan to address those challenges by implementing inventories, organizational processes and a website to better manage the service and make it more accessible to students. Each winner will receive up to $250 in supplies and materials to help make their plans a reality.
