    Coronavirus Information

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause respiratory illnesses with symptoms that include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. These viruses spread through coughing or sneezing, much like the flu. Some coronaviruses are common and regularly cause illness in the U.S. in the fall and winter. Other coronaviruses, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, have caused outbreaks internationally and have been known to cause severe illness.

The disease caused by the new coronavirus strain, COVID-19, is being closely monitored.

State and county agencies are working together to plan accordingly within the community. Thompson School District has a very strong partnership and works routinely with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, local government agencies and state entities.  Through these partnerships, we have collaborated with all of the agencies to develop appropriate protocols that can be enacted as needed.  Here are some examples of additional planning that the district is currently engaged in:

    • Development of a detailed unified plan that can be carried out in coordination with all relevant local, county and state agencies
    • Training options for staff members to assist them with any possible response.
    • Development of plans for an appropriate response if a need arises to temporarily close a school, multiple schools or all buildings within the district.
    • Development of plans for how education may possibly be delivered to students if closures become necessary
