What is Title 1A?
Ferguson High School is a designated Title IA Targeted Assistance school. Our school receives federal funding to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Title IA funding is based on census data for students aged 5-17 who reside within the boundaries of our school community. In Title 1A schools, 40% or more of students receive free or reduced-price meal service.
The purpose of Title I, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and close the achievement gap between high- and low-performing children, especially the achievement gaps between minority and nonminority students, and between disadvantaged children and their more advantaged peers.
Title IA Targeted Assistance Programs provide extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom to students identified as having the greatest need for special assistance. Intervention programs provide an accelerated, high-quality curriculum and minimizes interruptions to regular classroom instruction. Student progress is monitored regularly, and the program is adjusted accordingly.
