• Transportation Services

Although Colorado public schools are not mandated to provide transportation services for regular education students, the Thompson School District Board of Education elects to provide services to eligible riders. Please reference the Transportation department website or contact the Transportation Department at (970) 613-5185 for further information on eligibility for transportation services.

The City of Loveland works with Thompson School District to determine the placement of crossing guards at numerous intersections in the city. Contact the district's Security department at (970) 613-5010 for specific information on safe routes to school.

    Transportation Application

Families are required to apply for transportation services through the Parent Portal. The application process is open to all eligible elementary, middle, and high school families.

Thompson School District will provide transportation for qualified students with disabilities with special transportation designated on their IEP or 504 plan and students eligible for applicable services under the McKinney-Vento Act or our English Language Development program.

Thompson School District can withdraw transportation services if students do not follow safety guidelines. All transportation service options are subject to change.

    Exceptional Student Services Routes

Exceptional Student Services (ESS) routes have specialized schedules based on programs and students. If your child has been assigned to an ESS route, notify Transportation of any changes in contact numbers. Parents must contact Transportation to approve changes in pick-up/drop-off information. To avoid unnecessary stops, we ask that you contact Transportation at (970) 613-5185 before student absences or if your child will not require transportation for the day. Parents will receive detailed route information when their child has been assigned to an ESS route.

    Bus Stops

Board policy calls for bus routes to be arterialized, meaning buses will not travel into every subdivision or down every street. Bus stops will typically be located on main roads to reduce route miles and route times throughout the district. Parents are responsible for how their children reach their assigned bus stops.

    Bus Schedules

Please contact the Transportation Routing department at (970) 613-5196 with questions before your child rides the bus.

    Important Facts

Students should be at their assigned bus stop five minutes before the bus arrives and are asked to wait up to five minutes after the scheduled departure time. Delays can be caused by weather or other uncontrollable factors. Please contact Transportation at (970) 613-5185 if you have questions about possible issues or delays.

Students are prohibited from bringing skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, or other large/bulky items to the bus, including large or bulky athletic gear and some musical instruments. Any item considered too large may be refused due to safety and capacity issues. The district cannot assume liability for lost or damaged items.

Students not eligible or approved for transportation may not use transportation services to be transported to another school, stop location, or ride with friends.

For the safety and security of students and staff, the district may use audio/video cameras on district vehicles transporting students to and from school or extracurricular activities.
