This is an after-school program open to 3rd-5th grades.  It is a science program offered free-of-charge and will be held on the third Wednesday of the month from 4-5pm.  The kids will have an exciting time learning different areas of science and have a hands-on experiment to complete.  Topics include rockets, rocks, volcanoes, weather, insects, and robotics.  The class is limited to 15 students and a flyer will come home the week prior for students to indicate interest in attending. They can attend one or all, each topic is independent. However, they will need to prioritize which class they’d like to attend since space is limited.

This is an after school program focused on the engineering design process.  Students will participate in a number of engineering challenges and will use their imaginations and planning skills to create, improve and re-create and then share their engineering solution with their friends. They will use Legos, motors, scanners, infrared sensors, computer programming, and work as a team to solve these challenges. Kids will learn about engineering in a fun and creative environment without them even realizing it. There will be a fall group and a spring group, limited to 7-8 students each from 2^nd and 3^rd grade. Meeting time will be once a week from 3:47-5pm. A fee will be charged to help cover equipment cost (estimate $25-$35).

 

Technology Club

Starting October 30th, we will be holding a before-school Technology Club every Friday morning starting at 7:30am for 4th and 5th graders. We will be working on computer programming projects using Scratch, HTML and Python. These projects will be iterative and build on previous weeks and involve some teamwork. As such, a commitment is necessary when registering for Technology Club. We will be conducting two 11 week project sessions that will run through the remainder of the academic year. There will be a maximum of 8 students allowed in each session.  Interested students will fill out an application. We do not anticipate a fee for this club and will use the technology lab.

 

The DI program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process. Teams may showcase their solutions at a tournament. There will be 2 teams of up to 7 members each meeting Thursday after school from November through March. This club requires a firm time commitment because if a member drops out, they cannot be replaced. There will be a $25 fee to cover solution materials.

• Choir is for 4^th and 5^th graders and will meet Thursday afternoons this fall from 3:10-4:10 p.m.
