                                          Muscle Lab – Mr. Frye, Ms. Cox, and Mr. Hunn    

                   Meeting Dates/Times: Tuesday/Thursday, 6:30-7:15am (note the morning time!)

                                                                Fall/Spring Semesters

This before-school fitness club will teach students how to set appropriate fitness goals and hold them accountable as they work to achieve those goals.  Students will participate in resistance training, circuit training and sports specific drills.  They will also participate in character building exercises.  The lab will develop character, commitment and perseverance.



                                                                       Chess Club – Ms. Landis

                                                                      Fall/Spring Semesters

Students will learn and develop offensive/defensive strategies while broadening their understanding of the game.  Students will end each semester with a tournament.  All levels and abilities welcome.


                                                          Art and Artisans Club – Ms. Thompson                    

                                           Meeting Dates/Times: Mondays 3:15-4:15pm

                                                                      Fall/Spring Semesters

Artisans Club will offer a variety of arts/crafts activities and materials to students through an after school program. Artisans Club is for students who are interested in the arts; they do not need to be enrolled in art class. During art club, students will: 1) Create personal artwork;

2) Participate in art contest and fundraisers; 3) Have the opportunity to join the annual field trip.  The goal for Artisans Club is to 1) Teach members about the creation process; 2) Help members plan and create their own projects; 3) Learn about how to market/sell handmade goods; 4) Encourage members to explore creative new ideas.

For our first project members will make lip balms. Club members will collaborate on how to market and sell their lip balms to fundraise. All funds raised will go towards purchasing materials to create necklaces, Artisan club T-shirts, dream catchers and other projects club members propose to make together.






                                                                       Yoga – Ms. Satterthwaite

                                                            October 18 to December 13, 2016

Students will learn a style of yoga called "Viniyoga", by Gary Kraftsow. It is therapy-based, and began in the seventies when Kraftsow saw a need for a style that allowed anyone and everyone, regardless of ability, age, injury, etc., to enjoy yoga. Ms. Satterthwaite prefers this style of yoga as it taught her to teach with fidelity, watching physical alignment and considering overall safety of participants.  Classes focus on attention to self through breathing, and making well-being connections between mind and body.





                                                        Random Acts of Kindness Club – Ms. Nickerson

The goal of this club is to make the world a better place.  We will do whatever the students think will make this happen, from randomly doing nice things for people in the school to participating in community service projects to help the school, the district, or the community.




                                                                  Girls STEM – Ms. Nickerson                     

                                               Meeting Dates/Times: Wednesday – 3:15-4:15pm

                                                                      Fall/Spring Semesters

The goal of this club is to motivate girls who are interested in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics to explore this fields with the potential of eventually seeking a career in STEM.

We will explore all four areas of STEM, following the passions the girls bring to the table. Instructor will bring in guest speakers, we will do hands on learning activities, and ultimately, we would like to host an elementary Girls in STEM day in the spring.

TMS Student Council is a governing body made up of students and elected by students.   They represent the students of Turner Middle School and work with teachers and administrators to promote school spirit and pride. They also sponsor special projects, fundraisers and activities that bring awareness to the school community and the community of Berthoud.  Student Council gives students the opportunity to help others, collaborate and be proud to be a dragon!



                                MESA-IoT (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement – Internet of Things) – Mr. Champion

The Mesa IoT team meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.  The goal of the club is to get kids involved in creating a technology business built around the internet of things.  There are four teams: Business/Marketing, Audio/Video/Youtube, Design/Build, and Programming.  Each team plays its own role in the business with our end goal of producing a product that can be used by many.

In this class, students will learn how to build/fix things with their hands. The intent is

for students to be able to develop productive and safe work habits along with learning

basic woodworking and automotive skills.

(The focus for Spring Semester will be Automotive Skills)

Be a part of capturing history!  Applications for the yearbook staff will be available in October.  We will meet Wednesdays after school from 3-4:30.  This club requires commitment to the structured meeting time, but also event coverage outside the Wednesday meetings.



                                                                     Spelling Bee – Ms. McMahon

Come learn the best tips and tricks around for spelling and broaden your vocabulary!  We practice once a week (day TBD) to work on different aspects of spelling and vocabulary and prepare for the different rounds of the district bee.  There is even a statewide competition!  Join us for a b-o-a-t-l-o-a-d of fun!



                                                                            Orchestra – Mr. Farus                     

                                                      Meeting Dates/Times: Tuesdays – 3:15-4:00pm

                                                                             Fall/Spring Semesters

Orchestra is a chance for students to learn how to read, write and perform music on one of the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, bass.  Students from all grade levels are welcome and do not need to have a background playing instruments. Anywhere from beginner to advanced is perfectly fine!

Turner's drama program preforms two shows a year:  the play in the fall and the musical in the spring.  Auditions will be posted two weeks prior to the audition date.  Anyone interested in auditioning for either/both shows should schedule a time on the drama board in the main hall.  Requirements for auditions:  30 second monologue (and 16 bars of a song - for the musical only).


                                                                                 Math Counts – Ms. Leonard         

                                     Meeting Dates/Times: Mondays (or Wednesdays, if Monday is a no-school day)


                                                                           3rd Quarter: January 18 to March 27

Students will prepare for the Math Counts! Competitions held throughout the winter.  Fundamental math skills and preparation for the ‘Knowledge Bowl-like’ competition will be emphasized.


                                                               Bolder Boulder Run – Ms. Friedline and Mr. Zappa     

                                                        Meeting Dates/Times: Tuesday/Thursday – 3:15-4:15pm

                                                                                     March 28 to May 18

Students will prepare for the Bolder Boulder 10K run.  The club will also focus on nutrition, running strategies and proper training/exercises.
