Thompson School District Enrichment Opportunities

Welcome!
The Thompson School District offers and supports a wide variety of educational enrichment programs that align with curriculum taught in the classrooms. Why choose an enrichment program for your child?
      
      - Students will work on and investigate an area of interest more in depth. 
      - Involvement in enrichment programs allows for exposure to new hobbies and experiences.
      - Students are allowed to pursue a topic of study under the guidance of a teacher or mentor.
      - New friendships are formed
      - Creative thinking is developed and enhanced
 
General
Membership in all student enrichment organizations are on a voluntary basis. Membership is open to and limited to students currently enrolled in the district or in an approved home school program. Due to policy revisions approved by the Thompson School board on May 21, 2014 regarding enrichment programming, teams and/or organizations now have the ability to choose whether they will be District-Sponsored or Non-District Sponsored and therefore designated as an Educational Partnership Organization (EPO). To inform teams, parents and the community on these new policies, the enrichment office has detailed the team classification criteria below, as well as the associated benefits for each designation.
 

District Sponsored Criteria

·         Duly appointed district staff sponsor present at all times as stated in district policy JJA

·         Teams will meet at a designated district facility as stated in district policy JJA

·         All volunteers will be registered and background checked and must attend volunteer training as stated in district policy JJA

·         Teams will abide by all  district rules as stated in district policy JJA

·         Must provide written notice of staffing or volunteer changes as stated in district policy JJA

·         Must provide documentation of intent and compliance of being district sponsored as stated in district policy JJA

·         Teams must keep record of how student fees are received and utilized as stated in district policy JJA

 

District Sponsored Benefits

·         Team registration fees will be incurred by the district

·         Team registrations will occur through a district purchase order

·         There will be no facility usage incurred by teams

·         District transportation will be made available through the state competition, ceasing upon out of state travel

·         Use of district team names and mascot

 

Non District Sponsored/EPO Criteria

·         EPOs must sign and complete the “Agreement for Partnership” form prior to the start of the season, which ensures liability insurance as stated in district policy KBF – Relationships with Educational Partnership Organizations.

·         Teams will provide documentation to the district enrichment coordinator of background checks for coaches and volunteers working directly with students as stated in district policy KBF

·         Teams must provide written notice to the district enrichment coordinator of any volunteers or leaders, and when changes may occur, as stated in district policy KBF

·         Teams must provide documentation to the district enrichment coordinator regarding student fees and expenditures, as stated in district policy KBF

·         Teams/organizations may be subject to an audit by the district enrichment coordinator to ensure compliance to district policy KBF

·         Teams and events will be held to district policy KBF, KF and KF-R regarding facility usage requirements and fees

·         Teams must engage in activities that support curriculum as stated in district policy KBF

·         They will follow their own rules and bylaws, constitutions, etc. as stated in district policy KBF

·         Teams will incur organization and competition fees

 

Non-district sponsored/EPO Benefits

·         Teams are free to meet at facilities or locations of their choosing

·         Teams will be allowed to utilize district team names and mascot

·         Teams are not beholden to the district’s budget cycle for team registrations, etc.
