Mission: In the spirit of keeping it simple, our mission is focused on the ABCs: personal and student accountability for a standard of excellence; instructing students using research-based best practices that have proven to raise student achievement; and building a culture of PRIDE recognizing and rewarding positive behaviors and actions.

Motto: PRIDE is our motto and our vision at Erwin Middle School. This acronym defines the character goals of our Positive Behavior Support program and aligns to the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile.

Describe: We believe in a holistic approach to educating our students. We encourage our students to be active participants in their education and to participate in the many extracurricular activities that are offered at LEMS. We are a caring community that has high expectations for the success of our students. We are very proud of our students and staff and we support each other in all of our efforts.

Stellar Points: We have been officially authorized as an International Baccalaureate School representing the Middle Years Program. We focus on giving our students an international awareness and understanding of other cultures and perspectives. We are committed to creating a caring, compassionate, accepting community and we have been recognized as a No Place for Hate School. Students and staff have participated in a variety of different service learning activities, which include: knitting hats for infants, supporting multiple charities, writing and sending books to Haiti, making and sending dresses to Africa, supporting clothing drives, filling and distributing Thanksgiving baskets, making blankets for infants, planting flowers for nursing homes, etc.

Special Offerings: One of the components of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program is to provide world languages to all of our students. Students have the opportunity to take French or Spanish for the three years they are here at LEMS. We have a large percentage of gifted and talented students and we have been able to offer a variety of different extracurricular activities and competitions to involve and challenge these students. Activities include MESA, Foam Fighters, Odyssey of the Mind, Forensics, and Lego robotics. Our staff strives for excellence and students feel supported and are motivated to demonstrate their best efforts. We have been very successful athletically, winning numerous league championships. We have more than 50 percent of our students involved in instrumental and vocal music. They perform locally and have been very successful in the competitions and evaluations. We put on two theater productions each year and have had hundreds of students participate in the plays and musicals.

Climate: We have a staff that is driven to provide the best education possible for our students. PRIDE is the acronym for our PBiS program, and we believe in being positive, respectful, living with integrity, being self-disciplined, and striving for excellence. We have happy kids who feel safe and loved. Each and every staff member plays a role in making the Erwin experience the best that it can be for our students.
