The following Mountain View High School students were given citations for outstanding musicianship at the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival: Devin Bolton, Tyrese Chavez, Matthew Gagnon, JD Heaton, Trevor Shuffler and Dakota Sullivan.

Mountain View High School students Jakada and Lindsey will represent MVHS at the week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Camps this summer at YMCA of the Rockies. They were selected through a tough application process.
The following Laurene Edmondson Elementary School students placed at the District Chess Tournament: Jacob Findley, 2nd place, 3-5 division; Aidan Wilger, 3rd place, K-2 division; and Wesley Eltringham, 4th place, K-2 division. They were coached by Joe Findley. The school’s chess club was sponsored by Mrs. Hart.
The annual HP Code Wars, a first-class programming competition for high school students sponsored by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, was held in Fort Collins this year. The Berthoud High School team consisting of Jack Klein, Fiona Lingard and Matt Rottinghaus took 2nd second place in the competition. Berthoud High School teams, taught by Keith Lobdell, practice programming and coding intensely for the meets each year.

Their art teacher is Ian Yurk.
Coyote Ridge Elementary School’s Math Olympiad team took 1st place at the second annual Math Olympiads Tournament. Berthoud Elementary School received a Healthy Schools Grant which provided its students with new flexible seating options. Studies have shown that sitting for long periods of time with no movement decreases the brain’s ability to focus and learn; flexible seating offers a way for students to activate their bodies without disrupting the class during long learning sessions. Kindergarten received an under-the-desk pedaler, 1st and 2nd grades received ball chairs, 3rd grade received stand-up desks, and 4th and 5th grades received a mix of ball chairs and stand-up desks for their classrooms.
Garfield Elementary School’s “American Aces” team took 1st place and “The Why Nots” team took 3rd place at the regional Destination Imagination tournament. Both teams advanced to the Destination Imagination state competition in Denver. Their coaches are teachers Ellen Javernick and MaryLouise Strid and parent Johnathon Sweeney. Bill Reed Middle School’s Destination Imagination team took 1st place in the Destination Imagination Colorado 2017 Boulder Region competition.
