Elementary Spanish
Distance Learning Program

Elisa Tishmack, Luis Murillo, Angélica Arias

The goal of the Elementary Spanish Distance Learning program is to create awareness for global citizenship by supporting the AP and IB themes such as cultural diversity, global challenges, families and communities, and communication and media. This program focuses on teaching Spanish at the novice level. The novice range applies to all students beginning to learn a second language, which may occur at any age. This program will eventually encompass grades K-5, focusing on grades 3, 4 and 5 for the 2011-2012 school year. A specific curriculum has been designed and developed to meet the needs of all of our novice elementary learners. The vision of our elementary distance-learning program is to teach awareness of the Spanish language and culture. Our students will be able to communicate with other people in other cultures in a variety of settings and look beyond their customary borders. They will develop insight into their own language and culture, and act with greater awareness of self, of other cultures, and their own relationship to those cultures.
