Vision 2020

Five building blocks lay the foundation for Vision 2020 and provide the direction for our instruction, curriculum, budgeting, staffing and partnerships for the next ten years. With our limited resources, we need to be focused on the goals and strategies that will best prepare all our students for college, career and life in a globally competitive environment. That means being fully transparent in the decisions we make to guide our district, setting priorities and sticking to them, and concentrating our resources on the programs, practices and staffing that will best serve our students in achieving academic success. The goals set by the Board of Education in Vision 2020 are ambitious and aim high because we are preparing students for success in a world in which many of the jobs they will be holding haven't even been created yet. The strategies and action steps in this plan are designed to help us reach those goals and will require significant changes in policies and practices—from administration to the classroom.

The plan's success calls for a commitment from the entire Thompson community to work with us to provide services and supports to close our achievement gaps and raise the level of achievement for all students so that every student graduates ready for college, career and life in a continually changing, highly competitive, and exciting world.

How will we measure progress toward our goals and objectives?

For the first time in Thompson School District history, we have developed a plan with the specific results we are seeking. Our progress toward our goals and objectives will be monitored using key measures, such as graduation rates, financial reports, satisfaction surveys and state assessments. We will report our progress on a scorecard, published annually, so that the residents of the Thompson School District can see both our successes and areas for improvement. Additionally, the Board of Education will receive quarterly reports on our progress toward our goals and objectives.

What strategies and actions will be put in place in order to achieve the strategic goals and objectives?

Our planning teams have established strategies and key actions in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the strategic plan (Appendix I). Our next step is to develop department plans that further detail how strategies and key actions will be carried out. The goals, objectives, and measures of the strategic plan are the constant; the strategies and key actions are dynamic as we apply the cycle of continuous improvement (Plan-Do-Check-Adjust). Next fall, schools will align their school improvement plans to the district strategic plan for a seamless system. Visit the links at the right to learn even more about Vision 2020.
